Obituary for
Remo Gambioli
GAMBIOLI, Remo
March 17, 1928 – January 9, 2015
With great sadness we announce the passing of Remo Gambioli; “Dad”, “Nonno”, “Uncle Remo”. He was born in the small Italian village of Secchiano, almost 87 years ago. He grew up on his parent’s farm and emigrated to Canada at the age of 23; first to Quebec, and then to the West Coast, settling in Horseshoe Bay in 1958. Remo’s trademarks were his indefatigable need to work, and his VW bus. He worked hard as a cement finisher and stone mason for most of his career; building many of the towers in Vancouver’s West End and downtown, and much of Simon Fraser University, but the work Remo loved the most was gardening. He worked every day in his own garden, and on weekends for clients all over the North Shore. His enormous fruit and vegetable garden was widely known in the community for its abundance and variety. Remo’s “pets” were his beloved bees and the honey they provided, and his hens, which he cared for tenderly for decades. Remo is lovingly survived by his wife Marie, daughter Nora (Franz), grandchildren Gabi and Mia; sister Tecla (Virgilio), nieces Graziella (Primo) and Donatella (Angelo) in Italy; step-children Hans (Teresa), Rolf (Ronaye), Jeremy, Charmagne (Allen), CJ (Janie); and all of their children: Karsten (Kristen), Solveig (Yoann), Fenella (Jason), Leo, Harley, Nicolas, Nathaniel, and Lily-Margaret. A Funeral Mass will be held on January 24, 2015 St. Anthony’s Catholic Church (2347 Inglewood Ave, West Vancouver). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation or the Paul Sugar Palliative Foundation. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the compassionate care that Remo received at Lions Gate Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
