Obituary for Elva Lenore Termes

Elva Lenore Termes
ELVA LENORE (KASUN) TERMES (1934-2014)

Elva passed away in her sleep on October 27, 2014 in the care of Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Sadie Kasun, in 1976 and 1984. She will be most fondly remembered by her beloved husband Roy, son Mark, his wife Carla, and grandchildren Laura and Taylor.

Elva was born in 1934 in northern Saskatchewan. She moved to Vancouver in her youth and shortly thereafter came to call West Vancouver home. By the age of 15 she was working after school at the iconic Bon Ton café in Ambelside and graduating from West Vancouver High School. Elva became a pioneering dental assistant for Dr. Cameron in West Vancouver. It was there she met her husband Roy in the dental chair and they married in 1954.

Their son was born the following year. As he entered preschool Elva volunteered to help run the school and became inspired to pursue a career in education at West Bay and Brooksbank Elementary schools for the next two decades. Following her retirement, she joined her husband in the automotive industry, involving herself in substantial trade shows held across North America. By random fate this lead to a challenge she could not turn down. Importing wine from Australia. This is a task she took on with enthusiasm and great success for many years.

In her retirement she enjoyed her close friends, her home and garden, bridge, cruises and travels to Las Vegas. She also enjoyed a martini, crosswords, a good book, loved a party and always kept a fine sense of humor. She was most proud of her husband and family.

By Elva's request, no memorial service will be held. A private family gathering will take place on Saturday November 8 at Capilano View Cemetery. A celebration of Elva's life will follow later that day.

Special thanks to the caring and professional nursing staff, the heart and soul, of Lions Gate Hospital, who made Elva's final weeks comfortable. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to ALS Canada or ALS British Columbia.
