We got to know Lilly quite well since, for several years, we lived 2 doors down from Liz and Munson. There are many stories I could tell, but one comes immediately to mind. I was having trouble with the front door of our house such that it would lock on its own when closed. Sure enough, when I went outside one rainy morning to get the mail it slammed shut and locked. I had been working in my home office that morning -- in my grubby, casual clothes, no make up, hair not combed, and in my slippers. After checking all the doors and windows in the hope I could get into my house (no luck), I realized that my only solution was to walk up to West Van High (in my slippers), and ask the office staff to call my daughter out of class, so I could retrieve her key.
How embarrassing! Lilly, in her little red Mini saw me trugging towards the school in my slippers, and of course, she came to the rescue. She drove me to the school and waited for me while I obtained the key, and then drove me back. I was still embarrased that the school saw me in the state I was in, but at least the whole neighbourhood was spared this sight. Lilly and I had a good laugh about this.
We will miss her a great deal.
